WHY OWN YOUR MORNINGS?
There are only a handful of things in life you can control. The outcome of the things that you do at work, behavior of other people around you, or how things unfold during the day, are definitely not one of those. BUT how you start your day and what you do with your mornings is something you can control.
Most of the time people wake up just having enough time to get ready, have their cup of coffee or a quick breakfast before they head out the door. Waking up just having enough time to do all of these things is not enough. Why? Because in this state you are already rushing and being reactive to the time that you have. This then makes you reactive throughout the day.
I used to be that person that wakes up stressed and tired. I also get frustrated easily when things don’t go as planned. This state of being has prevented me from making the best decisions because I am being REACTIVE to whatever life throws at me.
Looking back, it has all to do with how I wake up. When I started to own my mornings by doing these things I am about to share with you, it has changed how I approached life. I've learned how to let go of the need for control, I became more proactive by making better decisions without feeling stressed out or rushed.
HOW TO HAVE A CALM MORNING ROUTINE
AND OWN YOUR LIFE
WAKING UP AT LEAST 30 MINUTES EARLIER
To start, set your alarm clock 15 minutes earlier than your usual time. For example, if you wake up at 8:00am, set up your alarm clock at 7:45 am. Gradually increase 15 minutes each week until you wake up at least 30 minutes earlier than you would now. This will give you enough time to settle in, reflect, and prepare for the day ahead.
A QUIET TIME
LIFE CHANGING. A few minutes of quiet time will allow you to get in touch with your mental, physical, and spiritual aspect of your life. Doing these things will help you feel more grounded, connected, peaceful, and balanced. If this idea is a little foreign to you, even just for two minutes of closing your eyes. Visualize your day and how you would want to show up.
OR
Grab your journal and answer these questions:
What am I grateful for today?
How will I show up today?
HYDRATE
If you think about it, your body goes a long period of time without any water consumption while you’re asleep. It only makes sense to hydrate yourself first when you wake up the best way possible… And, no, not with coffee, but with water. I personally have a cup of warm lemon water every morning. Lemon water has a lot of benefits from hydrating, energizing, and detoxifying your body. So make a cup of warm water, squeeze some lemon, drink it slowly, take your time with it, and feel your body getting hydrated.
Your morning is POWERFUL.
